The other day, London’s fashionable lot slipped into some interesting outfits for a party held in celebration of London Fashion Week. We honestly have yet to identify who called the gathering, but judging from the famous faces who attended the event, it was probably hosted by some high profile label or magazine.

Victoria and David Beckham were there. Kate Moss, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Harry Styles turned up as well (and so did a slew of other celebrities). Of course, the ones who drew much of the attention were those decked in fancy costumes (or headgear) — starting with Georgia May Jagger, who rocked a tattered hooded cape with a sheer dress and red pointy-toe boots.

While the others looked a little over the top in their chosen attire, Georgia May oozed a strange mix of gothic charm and rebellious sex appeal with hers. Perhaps she was channeling Red Riding Hood, but with her pouty lips, see-through frock, and extra long lashes, all we saw was a sultry maiden ready to party the night away.

Of course, as soon as we got over the fascination, we immediately took notice of her cape. What an interesting topper, right? It sure looks perfect for Halloween.

That said, wearing a cape can always give one’s look an air of mystery. Would you agree? (Blame it on Agatha Christi or Sherlock Holmes!)

Jackets and structured coats are great, but if you want something a little different that is just as polished, a cape is one way to go.

Structured and Sleek

If you crave the boxy cape shape, these options from Oscar de la Renta and Stella McCartney are ideal. They’re slightly masculine but very sophisticated. Wear any of these with skinny trousers and sky-high heels to complete the look.

Prints and Textures

Like to kick things up a notch? Then these printed and textured toppers from Etro and Alexander McQueen are the ones for you. We especially love the McQueen creation. The mixed-knit treatment looks supremely divine.

If you like your cape soft and flowy, these leather-trimmed options from Lora Piana and Sofia Cashmere are the perfect choices. They’re very versatile and you can wear them with practically anything. Of all the capes we’re laying on the table today, these are the ones that’ll give you your money’s worth.

Casual and Cool

Not really fond of the dressier kind of capes?

Maybe these hooded alternatives from Tess Giberson and Tibi will do it for you. These capes have the casual feel to them sprinkled with a little bit of extra, like the use of a waxy or quilted material to achieve that uniquely edgy flavor.

Totally Traditional

Of course, you can always stick to the usual fur-trimmed or plaid cape for fall if that’s what you feel like wearing. The Ralph Lauren option below gives you that Saville Row-feel while the furry topper from Sofia Cashmere is totally luxe!
